Monarchs

It starts with finding a very hungry caterpillar on a milkweed plant on Aug. 19th.
We put it in an old fish tank and watched it eat and eat and grow bigger and bigger before our eyes!
Aug. 27
Then it slowed down and found a spot to hang from and curl up in a J shape.
Aug. 28
A day later we witnessed it encase itself in just a few minutes.
Sept. 5
After about a week it was ready.
Sept. 6
To unveil itself and crawl over to a branch to hang from and dry its wings.
With little watchful eyes, we didn't want to miss an exciting moment of change. Updates were texted if anyone was gone. It was truly an amazing process to see up close in real life!

First Day of School

And there goes another summer...
Happy 1st Day of School!

Labor Day Weekend

On Sunday we all gathered at Kohler-Andrae Park
for some end of summer fun
Greg brought bocce ball and had us all calling the little target 'pallino'
We brought our new friend, JaQuay

After lunch we headed to the beach with our inner tubes

They ended up drifting in them like a lazy river along the coast.
 Waves were cold!

We struck water and all stuck our feet in it.
After our fill of waves and sand, we cleaned up a bit and had a cookie and played games.

Meet Your Teacher

Mrs. Daily & Abby in 1st Grade!
Replaced Mrs. Piper, new to Deerfield. After a few days of school, says "Abby has been doing a great job adjusting to the classroom. I have been able to count on her to make great choices and be a good peer model for others."

Locker: Ready!
Mrs. McKnight & Lydia in 3rd Grade!
Little known secret: Mrs. McKnight has a secret stash of candy!

Interestingly, both their teachers each have a child in the same grade at a different school. Mrs. McKnight says this means she knows what's cool to have as rewards ;)

Taking turns burying each other in the corn pit,
oddly it looks like a spa treatment for them!

We thought some of our John Deere-loving family would love to have this in their backyard for their kids!
