Kenya Safaris

Left IAH Thursday to Heathrow to Nairobi. On Saturday we went on a safari!

These mommas stood their ground and sent the white rhino packing

Riding and bumping in the safari van with the top popped up was half the fun

We stopped to view the Great Rift Valley on way to MaaiMahiu

The rift continues to grow as it attempts to split Africa in two

Who’s crossing the roads in Kenya? 

Baboons, warthogs, goats, giraffes and camels.

On the next Saturday, we went to Naivasha Lake for a beautiful water safari!

And this guy is fishing in the crook of the tree!

There were no crocodiles, we gave the hippos space, and did not feed them. The guide did throw a fish for an eagle to swoop and get.

We all survived the safari and were treated to the antics of the monkeys back on land.

4 groups went to 4 different locations 

A church in Nairobi we visited Sunday

Nairobi is a big city, but people are all outside on the streets living, walking, herding.

And they still have primitive cooking.

Typical meal may include: ugali, cabbage, meat on bone, lentils, chapati

We were stationed in Maai Mahiu (2 hrs from Nairobi)

There was also the Autorefractor Station

To pray with the people in Triage was really special for me.

 I worked with LHM evangelist, helpers/translators, and eventually they just sent me the English-speakers.

They have so little, their faith means so much.

Preschool recess means time to roll tires!

The kids were curious/fascinated with us “mzugus” or foreign white people

We visited a very raw hospital.

They used a room off the maternity ward for cataract surgeries.

The clinic was run by 7 of us from St John, 15 local helpers, 4 local doctors, 3 host pastors, 2 local Lutheran Hour Ministries staff (pictured: us, 2 helpers, 1 pastor)

In our clinic alone:

2723 people served!!!

Provided 96 cataract surgeries and 162 people accepted Jesus as their savior!!
